Frontier and Volaris to launch codeshare

frontiervolarisfrontFrontier Airlines and Volaris have signed a codeshare agreement, with sales to begin in the coming months.

USA discount carrier Frontier has entered into a codsehare agreement with Mexican low-priced counterpart Volaris.

Volaris serves 24 US destinations and 40 in Mexico. Frontier now flies nonstop to three leisure-focused Mexican locations from Denver - Cancun on year-round flights, and Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas on seasonal routes.

Volaries offers service to Mexico City and Guadalajara from Denver. Volaris is a publicly traded company but its majority shareholder is Indigo.

The move would open up new options to Mexico out of Denver. The agreement needs to be approved in both the USA and Mexico. The release claims this is among the first ever codesharing deal between ultra-low-cost carriers.

Both carriers operate Airbus A320 family aircraft, and recently boosted their orderbooks with an order for 430 A320neo family aircraft by Indigo that was firmed up in late 2017. "As the leading ultra-low-cost carrier in Mexico, Volaris is an ideal partner with which to align and we look forward to work together to deliver low fares to millions of people".

Volaris has a growing United States network, now serving more than 20 destinations including Frontier's Denver hub, FlightGlobal schedules data show.
